"We have a dream, a dream in which all Young Ambassadors work as one to promote the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We vow to inspire and lead the younger generations and light the torch of tomorrow!"
Each year until 2012, School Sport Partnerships across England will recruit two young people to take on the role of Young Ambassador for two years. In their first year, they work in their local communities championing sport and the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement. In the second year they take on a mentoring role with the new Young Ambassad
or intake.
By the time the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games reach these shores in 2012, more than 5,000 young people from across the UK will have been through the Young Ambassador programme, which is managed by the Youth Sport Trust on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
Half of all the Young Ambassadors, which this year will total 898 nationwide, are selected due to their sporting talent, while the other half are chosen due to their outstanding commitment and ability as young leaders or volunteers.
The South Northants and Daventry SSP is now in the third year of its Young Amabassador programme. Our 'PLATINUM' Young Ambassadors are Charlotte Burrows and Will Lovell and our latest 'GOLD' Young Ambassadors are Dan Gardner and Lottie Tulley. All four ambassadors have written their biographies below. For more information on the Young Ambassadors programme, please visit the Youth Sport Trust website here. Now, in 2009/10, the Youth Sport Trust has announced that the Platinum and Gold YAs will be joined by 'Silver' YAs - 2 YAs from each of the Partnership's Secondary schools. This means that the SSP is looking to recruit NINETEEN more YAs into the programme!
This promises to be the biggest year yet for the YA programme, both in South Northants and Daventry and also across the entire country! Please keep checking back to see how our team of YAs have been recruited and the fantastic work they are doing in primary schools and across the Partnership!
