South Northants and Daventry School Sport Partnership Roles
As the SSP has grown, so has the number of staff. Below are the SSP roles and responsibilities of all staff based at Roade School Sports College.
Duncan Tucker, Partnership Development Manager (PDM)
A full time strategic position responsible for developing and managing partnerships within, between and beyond schools, to ensure every child matters in physical education and sport.
Overall Role
- Leadership and management of the SSP
- Set clear targets to develop the work of the SSP
- Develop and nurture partnerships with key partners
- Work closely with the County Sport Partnership (CSP) to develop school-club links
Leadership and Management of the SSP
- Through the Partnership Management Steering Group and other mediums articulate a clear vision for the SSP and engage partners to contribute to the 5 hour offer
- Enable and encourage all schools to ensure that young people take part in a minimum of 2 hours high quality physical education, leading to a further 3 hours beyond the school day
- Develop an ongoing self review document - the South Northants and Daventry SSP Evaluation and priorities Document (EPD) - that reflects the priorities of each cluster of schools and meets the intended national outcomes with consideration of wider local plans
- Advocate the priorities of the SSP within wider local authority strategic frameworks, so priorities can be linked to other relevant strategies eg; extended schools, health, youth offer, etc
- Establish robust data tracking and monitoring systems to help inform SSP priorities
- Fulfil the requirements of the national data collection process
- In conjunction with the hub site - Roade School Sports College - ensure that the SSP's work and finances are administered effectively
- Support Head teachers in the identification, appointment and development of School Sport Coordinators (SSCos), Further Education Sport Coordinators (FESCos) and Primary Link Teacher (PLTs) posts
- Provide functional management to the Assistant PDM, Competition Manager (CM), Administration Assistant, SSCos, FESCo (where applicable), SSP Coaches and support to PLTs
- Support the SSCos, FESCo and PLTs in evidencing and advocating the role of physical education and sport in raising whole school standards
- Work with the Sports College Director of Specialism to ensure the work of the SSP complements the work of the Sports College
- Promote the benefits and successes of the SSP and establish and maintain regular communication between all interested parties
- Identify and attract additional sources of funding to support sustainable development activity
High Quality Physical Education for all Young people
- Support SSCos to identify schools that have systems in place to assess if they have high quality physical education
- Work with the Local Delivery Agency to support and signpost those schools that do not
Access to High Quality Activities on a School Site
- Determine the SSP's sporting landscape - who are the engaged, the non-engaged and what are their barriers to participation?
- In conjunction with key partners, strategically manage appropriate, targeted development of sustainable high quality Out of School Hours Learning (OSHL) programmes across the SSP
Signpost to High Quality Activities in a Community Environment
- Work with key partners to support SSCos, FESCo and PLTs to signpost to appropriate high quality community sport pathways
Provision for young people to develop their potential
- Work strategically with the CM to increase high quality competition opportunities for all young people
- In conjunction with the CSP and relevant partners, ensure that opportunities for talented young people to access high quality performance opportunities are part of a wider strategic, sustainable coaching development process
High Quality Coaching, Leadership and Volunteering
- Ensure that young people engaged in coaching, leadership and volunteering are reflective of the diversity of the SSP and fully utilise the Step into Sport pathway to support development
- In conjunction with the CSP and relevant partners, ensure that high quality coaching, leadership and volunteering development within the SSP is part of a wider, strategic, sustainable development process
- Support SSCos and FESCo to implement high quality leadership and volunteering development programmes
- Ensure the appropriate deployment of School Sport Coaches and Community Sport Coaches in support of the SSP's high quality development activity
Assistant Partnership Development Manager (Assistant PDM)
A full time strategic position responsible for developing and managing partnerships within, between and beyond schools, to ensure every child matters in physical education and sport.
Overall Role
- To assist the PDM in the leadership and management of the SSP
- Develop the work of the SSP through the EPD
- Work with CSPs, clubs, SSCos and PLTs to develop school-club links
Leadership and Management of the SSP

- Contribute to development of the EPD
- Coordinate and manage the SSP 'Top Up Swimming' programme and oversee the delivery of the programme across the SSP
- Provide functional management to the School Sport Coaching Programme coaches
- Promote the work of the SSP via the SSP website and consistently update SSP pages and manage the site's appearance and content
- Manage the production, collection and assessment of SSCo Work Programmes
- Work with the CSP and other relevant partners to lead, coordinate and manage the SSPs Coaching, Leadership and Volunteering Academy and Step into Sport programmes

- Lead and be 'point of contact' for CSP communications of Coaching, Leadership and Volunteering and the Step into Sport programmes
Adam Scott, Competition Manager (CM)
A full time position, split between South Northants and Daventry SSP and Northampton SSP, responsible for the modernisation of the local competition landscape by developing opportunities to increase the number of young people taking part in inter-school competition.
Overall Role
- Work across the SSP to increase the quality, quantity and develop the delivery of competition opportunities
Leadership and Management
- Advocate the role of competition, promoting benefits and successes, ensuring it has a high profile
- Work strategically with the PDM and Assistant PDM to increase high quality competition opportunities for all young people
- Through the Senior Competition Manager ensure that the competition programme compliments that of other Partnerships
- Manage and coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of projects associated with the programmes, fulfilling local and national data requirements
- Ensure that the competition programme is effectively linked with other strands of PESSYP and other relevant national programmes
- Identify and support the continued professional development needs of the SSCos, FESCos and PLTs associated with the delivery of high quality schools competitions
- Provide regular feedback and updates via SSCo and Boys and Girls PE meetings
Provision for young people to develop their potential
- Support the SSP in the delivery of local competitions
- In conjunction with the CSP and other sporting partners, ensure that opportunities for talented young people to access high quality performance opportunities is part of a wider strategic, sustainable coaching development process
- Link local competition priorities with the national competition framework, incorporating associated National Governing Bodies and School Association templates
Yvonne Taylor, SSP Administration Assistant
A full time position responsible for providing administrative assistance to the SSP and its programmes
Overall Role
- To provide administrative support to the PDM and Assistant PDM across the SSP's range of programmes
Administration of the SSP
- To operate the day-to-day administration of the SSP CPD programme
- To collate and process financial information across CPD, SSP and YST initiatives
- To manage the collection of data, both electronic and paper and store, process and delegate as required
- To collate important information and payments received relating to the SSPs range of programmes, including Sport Unlimited (Year 1), School Sport Coaching Programme and Top Up Swimming
- To prepare resources for CPD courses and ensure that tutors, venues and delegates are aware of all relevant information
- To liaise with SSP staff, parents, teachers, Sports College staff and coaches when required in relation to the SSPs programmes and initiatives
Denise Parker, Primary Link Teacher Mentor (PLT Mentor) - in post September 2009
A two (full) days per week position to support Primary Link Teachers (PLTs) in the School Sport Partnership in their strategic and practical development of high quality PE provision.
Overall Role
- To provide comprehensive support for PLTs within the School Sport Partnership (SSP)
Leadership and Mentoring
- To liaise with PLTs and Head teachers where appropriate
- To provide a baseline assessment of the schools' positions with regards to the Northamptonshire High Quality PE Programme
- To mentor/assist PLTs with their role and responsibilities as outlined by the SSP elements of the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP)
- To develop curriculum maps based on the High Quality PE Programme
- To facilitate and develop assessment models based on the Northamptonshire High Quality PE Programme
- To assist PLTs with their PE Self Evaluation Form (SEF)
- To team teach alongside the PLT and/or other teaching staff, as appropriate - with a particular focus on dance, gymnastics and games activities, but also with a selective focus on athletics and outdoor and adventurous activities
- The signposting of teaching staff with particular need for PE specific training onto the SSP and/or countywide Continuing Professional Development programme
- To liaise with SSCos, PLTs and SSP coaches (curricular and Out of School Hours Learning) to provide high quality input and to work towards the 5 hour PESSYP target
- To keep records of agreed action points and action planning for the schools in question
- To report regularly to the PDM, Assistant PDM and SSCos on progress made with the targeted schools
