SSP Leadership Academy and YA Launch
Date added: 18/11/2009SSP Leadership Academy and YA Launch
The 2009/10 School Sport Partnership
Leadership Academy launched in the October half term with unparallelled success across the entire county.
33 of the best Young leaders in the Partnership from 10 of the Partnership's 11 Secondary schools descended on Roade School Sports College for a day of workshops led by Tristan Hale (Volunteer Coordinator for Northamptonshire Sport), Jamie Leeson (SSP Assistant PDM) and Alex Dunn (
Skills4Sport and SSP Coach and Multi Skills leader).
The 33
Young Ambassadors (including the SSPs Platinum and Gold YAs) gave up their own time to enroll on the Leadership Academy and attended 'interventions' covering an introduction to the
'Step into Sport and Volunteer Passport' national programme, the launch of the SSP Young Ambassador national programme and a practical first aid course with a focus on sport.
Platinum YA Will Lovell, assisted by Charlotte Burrows and Dan Gardner, leads a YA task with Silver and Bronze YAs.
The Academy was the first of a number of occasions that the YAs will get together this year, with the aim that they promote the Olympic and Paralympic values, visit Primary schools and work together to produce a major event during National School Sports Week (Monday 28th June-Friday 2nd July 2010).
YAs definitions of one of the Olympic values...
The YAs are all aiming to graduate from the Leadership Academy by attending a combination of workshops, sport-specific workshops (Football, Netball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Gymnastics and Cricket are some of the sports who have signed up), working at SSP or school tournaments or festivals and volunteering in their local community in, for example, a sports club.
The YAs have set up their own Facebook group, to ensure that they are able to share ideas and plans for the year easily - after all, we have a team of YAs stretching from Moulton to Middleton Cheney!
The YAs will have hoped to graduate from the Academy by April 2010. Please keep checking back for updates, or visit the pages under the 'leadership' tab on the home page.
Planning the big event and the YAs are YA-ing!
